The practical details

Your guides. Your device.

You can read every guide without a Plaintech account or agreeing to analytics.

Saved guides and progress

When you save a guide, tick off a step, mark a learning milestone, or choose larger text, this site uses your browser’s local storage to remember that choice. These choices are not synced to an account. If you allow website recordings, the current guide and its visible steps can appear in a replay, as explained below. The choices stay in that browser and will not follow you to another device.

You can unsave a guide with its bookmark button and reset step progress from the guide. To clear all local choices, remove this site’s data in your browser settings. Private browsing or blocked storage may prevent choices from being retained.

In the step-by-step guide, we also remember your current step in this browser. Pressing Done — next step marks that step complete; finishing all steps saves the guide’s learning milestone. Pause lets you return to your saved place. These choices stay on this device.

Optional visitor analytics

With your permission, Plaintech uses PostHog’s European Union service to understand which guides are useful and how readers discover our Samsung phone book. We measure page visits, book recommendation clicks, Amazon button clicks and printable download clicks. A download click does not confirm a completed download, and an Amazon click does not confirm a purchase.

Analytics can include the page path, referring website domain, campaign labels, browser and device information, and a randomly generated session identifier. This identifier connects visits in the same browser tab; we do not attach your name, email or an account to it. Requests pass through this website’s Cloudflare proxy to PostHog. IP addresses are used to estimate country or city; the project is configured to discard the IP addresses. Location estimates may be approximate. Automatic interaction events and personal profiles are switched off. Website recordings are optional and can be declined separately.

Page-visit and link-click events remove page query strings and fragments, including search queries. Those events do not include typed form text, saved guides, completed steps or reading preferences. We retain only selected campaign labels when they use simple, non-personal values.

The PostHog script loads only after you choose Analytics only or Allow analytics & recordings. Choose No thanks to use the site without either. You can change or withdraw your choice with Analytics choices in the footer. Your choice is remembered in local storage for up to 180 days. Analytics identifiers use session storage for the current browser tab and are removed when you withdraw consent. Events already sent while you allowed analytics may remain in reports.

Optional website recordings

If you choose Allow analytics & recordings, PostHog can replay the pages you see, mouse or touch movements, clicks, scrolling and visible guide steps on Plaintech. This helps us see where instructions are confusing. It does not record your whole device screen, other tabs or apps, camera or microphone.

Typed input is hidden before recording data leaves your browser. Search forms, search-result query text, editable areas, the saved-guides page and consent panel are masked or blocked. Page URL queries and fragments are removed. Browser console logs, network request details, headers, bodies, canvas and embedded media are not captured. Public guide text and illustrations remain visible.

Recordings use a random session identifier and are kept for 30 days. Choose Analytics only to allow visit and link-click counts without recordings. You can stop future recordings or withdraw all analytics using Analytics choices in the footer. Previously sent recordings may remain until their retention period ends. An earlier analytics acceptance does not permit recording; we ask for a new choice.

Browsers that send a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal are treated as opting out. See PostHog’s data collection documentation for its service controls.

Search and hosting

Search is handled locally by the page. Submitting a search can put your query in the page URL and browser history; loading that URL can also expose it to the hosting service. Avoid entering personal information.

This site is hosted by Cloudflare Pages. The hosting platform may process requests, access information and technical logs under its own policies. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy for the platform’s practices.

Links to other websites

Guides link to official documentation and, where useful, account settings on other websites. Our book buttons link to Amazon using Amazon Attribution tags. These let us see aggregate Amazon visits and purchases attributed to our book links. Amazon handles this activity under its own privacy practices. Plaintech’s PostHog analytics measures the outgoing click; it does not record your activity on Amazon. Plaintech does not collect passwords, payment information or your Amazon account data.
